Golden Delicious have a pale yellow skin, sometimes with a red blush. The mildly sweet pale yellow flesh resists browning, making it a good choice for salads and other dishes.
It is thought to be a cross between Golden Reinette and Grimes Golden Apples.
Golden Delicious apples are great for eating out of hand, baking and salads. Note that you can reduce the amount of added sugar when making pies with Goldens.
Golden Delicious were discovered as a chance seedling in 1890 in Clay County, West Virginia. It was first named MullinÃ‚Â´s Yellow Seedling, then in 1916 it was renamed Golden Delicious.
